At War!

We are at war!

Right now, in this very moment we are at war. The enemy seeks to plunder and destroy the foundation of Christianity, the foundation of each of us, to discredit us. To misuse our own teachings against us and to focus our thoughts on things that do not matter. A lot of times people forget to think about that matter. A lot of times people forget to acknowledge the fact that as Christians we are fighting a war.

Our first hint of this comes in 2 Timothy3:12

Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution

Those who desire to live a God driven life will suffer persecution This is because we are at war. We are each soldiers in God's army. If you have ever been in a war or in the army then you know that no soldier goes through that without suffering of some sort. Luckily, just as basic training does for soldiers every where we are taught in the Bible how to fight this war.

The first thing we need to know about this war is that it is not new. Ecclesiastes chapter 1 verse 9 tells us that all things that have been will be again. Nothing is new. Christians have been fighting persecution since the dawn of our religion. Stories through out the Bible tell us this. Two familiar stories are in Daniel. Chapter 3 tells the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. Who suffered because they refused to worship anything other than God. In the end their faith delivered them from a fiery death. Daniel Chapter 6 tells the story of Daniel as he is cast into the lions den for praying. Here to his faith was strong and he was set free from his captors. The Bible is rife with the stories but the truth is, we simply need to know that the war we fight is not new. It has been on going since the days of Christ.

The second thing we need to know about this war is that it is not a physical war, and can not be won in a physical way. We can not load a weapon and fire it at our enemy. Our enemy is unseen, he hides behind lies and misdirections.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 tells us:

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

We can not fight a battle with regular weapons of warfare, no we must seek other weapons. Luckily God provides those to us as well.

Ephesians 6:11-13 tells us:
"11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,[a] against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;"

We are to gird our waist with truth, and put on the breastplate of righteousness. We are to understand the Gospel of peace, and carry with us our faith as a shield, and the word of God as our sword.

Satan knows the word of God, and he subverts it to his own designs, but if we study it every day, if we learn it, and if we understand it, if we carry it with us in our hearts, he can not defeat us. This is the most powerful weapon against Satan that we have. Understanding and knowledge of the Bible, Faith in our savior, these are the weapons we need to rely on every day to battle in this war.

Sometimes it will be hard. Satan will look for weak points to attack you. Perhaps you have a physical ailment, and no matter how hard you try it just gets no better. Perhaps you have a bully, perhaps your love life is not what you want it to be. Maybe your friends are not Christians and you are afraid that you will offend them. Maybe you are faced with poverty every day. Whatever the circumstance these are things Satan can use against us if we are not careful.

1 Peter 5:8 tells us:
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

So we must expect these attacks, and we must work to fight against them. Not by physical means but how? Through the word of God, and the Shield of Faith. These are our weapons of war.

2 Timothy Chapter 2 verse 1-13 tells us:

You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 3 You therefore must endure[a] hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. 5 And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. 6 The hardworking farmer must be first to partake of the crops. 7 Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things 8 Remember that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead according to my gospel, 9 for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of chains; but the word of God is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11 This is a faithful saying:
For if we died with Him,
We shall also live with Him.
12 If we endure,
We shall also reign with Him.
If we deny Him,
He also will deny us.
13 If we are faithless,
He remains faithful;
He cannot deny Himself.

So our road will not be easy, and the war will rage on for our life time, but there is one more thing we need to know about this war. The most important part of it.

We have seen now in scripture that there is a war going on. We have seen how to fight it, and what to expect from it. The final peace though is the one thing Satan wants us to forget. The most important part of it all. The outcome of this war is already determined.

In John 16:33 Jesus tells us:
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

No matter how hard we have to fight, and no matter how hard Satan pushes us. We can not lose. Jesus has overcome the world and promised us here that we will too. What's more if you read Revelation, you realize that at the end of it. Satan is cast into the burning pit forever and ever. So do not lose heart. We may be soldiers in a great battle, but it is one that we WILL win.

Consider this...

Consider this... Have you ever went grocery shopping while hungry? Learned people everywhere know this is a bad idea because when you enter the grocery store hungry, every thing looks tempting. You reach and grab for things based on the innate desire to fulfill that need of hunger in your body. Jesus said in Matthew 4:4 "It is written that men should not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the lord." When you go out into the world, hungry for spiritual things, for a closeness with something, you are likely to grab on to any junk you find along the way. This is why it is important to feed yourself every day before you go out into the world. Feed yourself the words of the Lord, and let his words fill your spiritual needs so that you may not just grab on to anything, you will be filled with the spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, and you will seek only more of that good spiritual food, not the junk that is swirling around in the world today.

There will be a lesson on this, as soon as it is properly formulated, but for now, just consider that thought..

Don't Worry, Be happy!

Colossians 3:23-24 reads:

And whatever you do, do it heartily as to the Lord and not unto men. Knowing that from The Lord you will receive the reward of inheritance for you serve the Lord Jesus Christ.
We are commanded to do everything heartily and for God, not for men. This means we are to be thinking and acting for God. We should not serve the purpose of men, and we should not allow ourselves to be taken back by the things that are of men. We should put our focus on God, and let him drive our lives to what he wants them to be.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 reads:
In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

In every thing we do, in every situation, we should give thanks and praise to God. When we are in Christ, we should not think that we have control over the situations in our lives. We should think instead that God is doing what is best for us in our lives. This does not mean we lose our free will, but that our desires and our thoughts and everything we do should be focused, As we read in Colossians, towards what God desires for us.

If we as Christians believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God then we must believe that God has desired us to act accordingly to these two verses. What is more amazing is that the first verse is written by Paul while he was in prison. Imagine now, that you are sitting in prison and you may or may not know what is going to happen for the rest of your life. Perhaps you are going to be thrown into a pit of lions, perhaps you are going to be put to death like Jesus was. Perhaps you are going to spend the rest of your life rotting away in a prison. This is the point Paul was at when he wrote this. Even then he had the strength to realize that whatever happened was God's will, as long as he kept his faith and acted according to what he felt God would want him to do in his life. We may face many situations in our lives, where we have occasion to wonder what is next, what is going to happen, but we are to face these head on, doing things heartily as to the Lord, and not fall into the idea that we have to act as men do.

Yet sometimes we forget, and sometimes we worry! What will I do? Where will my next meal come from? How will I take care of this or that. The great thing about being a Christian is that we do not have to worry about such things. If we remember the two verses ahead then we know that God will take care of us. Still, is there biblical backing for that line of thought?

In Matthew chapter 6 Jesus talks about worry, specifically in verses 25- 34
25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Those are some pretty strong statements by Jesus that discuss worry, and the fact that we should not do it. Jesus tells us that we will be clothed, we will be fed. More so we are commanded to seek the kingdom of God first, and let all the other things fall into place. I personally think this goes well with the first verse we read. Where Paul tells us to do everything heartily ( or happily) and as unto the Lord. Jesus was the son of God, he could have done anything he wanted in this world, he could have had a kingdom that was more glorious than any we have ever encountered on this Earth. He could have riches beyond belief, but instead he spent his time trying to do everything the Father wanted him to do. We must remember this. When we are Christians we are not to act only in our best interests but the interests of those around us, and more importantly and always first the interest of God. If we do that, God will always give us everything we need. So why worry? Why let ourselves fall into the idea that we can do something about the situations we are in? Why argue, fuss, and let ourselves fall into this human trap of thinking we are some how great enough to over come all things? We aren't! We are in fact great enough to follow in the footsteps of the Savior and do all things for God. That includes not worrying. God doesn't want us to worry about things, he doesn't want us to fear that we might not have food, or that we might not have food, or that we might not have clothing, or that we might not have what we want. God give us what we need, and that usually is a lot better than what we want. All we have to do is follow him, seek his kingdom and his glory, because no glory amongst man can be near as wonderful as the glory of God.

Simply put, we are to focus on God, from sun up to sun down, one day at a time doing everything we can in that day to make sure we follow the will, and the word of God. To make sure that everything we do is in his Glory and his Name. We do not need to worry, not for today, not for tomorrow. I once heard a statement from someone it said. Never worry about to tomorrow, God is already there. So if you have worries, just give them up to God, let him take them, and don't pick them back up, don't give them to God and then say.. “Oh wait, I want those back.” Worry causes quite a bit of unhappiness. Which brings us to the second part of this. Remember the name is “Don't worry, be happy”.

Who here knows the story of Job? Job was tormented, he had all his worldly possession taken from him, he had all his children destroyed, he had his body racked with physical pain. In the hardest moment of his life, he was not only attacked by emotional stress of all the loss, but the physical pain that boils and lesions cause. Everyone around him was telling him just to give up. His wife even told him to curse God and Die. How did he respond? He said how can we accept good from God, without also accepting the bad. The Bible tells us that in everything he did, Job did not sin.

Can you imagine the strength and faith it must take to be like Job? To understand that no matter what happens in life we should be thankful, because it is something God is doing for us. Some way God in his wisdom is helping us. As Christians we are supposed to believe this, and if we believe this then we might not like the situation we are in, but we should be happy knowing, trusting, believing that God will bring us out of it.

Who here has read the book of Ecclesiastes? It is my favorite book of the Bible because there is so much wisdom to be gained from reading it. In the very opening chapter the preacher says:
Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher; “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.”

In this instance the word vanity means essentially fruitless. The preacher tells us here that all things are fruitless. If you read the whole book, you learn that he is not talking about one particular thing, he is talking about everything we do on this Earth, that is not done for God. That means every time we are bogged down in trouble and we frown or we worry it is pointless. It does us no good. Instead we should do all things in a manner that is pleasing to the Lord. God doesn't want us to be sad and somber. God wants us to be happy. If we are caught up in our own worldly struggles then we are not focused on God, if we are mired in bad moods or bad thoughts they are not pleasing to the Lord. In all things, we should offer thanks, but we should do it with a smile and a true happiness because we know that God only does for us what is needed, and what is best for our lives.

Psalms 105:3 “Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord! “
John 16:33 “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will[a] have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
Proverbs 16:20 20 “He who heeds the word wisely will find good, And whoever trusts in the Lord, happy is he.”
Phillipians 4:4-7
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!
5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

I think we need to take a good hard look at verse 6 here. It says that we are to be anxious ( or worry) for nothing, but in everything we are to be in prayer and supplication. We are to be giving thanks, and we are to let our requests be known to God. If we do that, it says that God will give us peace that passes all understanding, and he will guard our hearts and our minds. So we really shouldn't worry. God is taking care of us, and then we look at verse 4. Rejoice in the Lord, and again I say. Rejoice. You can not rejoice if you are un-happy. Here I think is clear and defined evidence as all the verses we read before were. That God expects us to be happy. I think if we take Phillipians chapter 4 verses 4-7 the Bible tells us.. Don't worry, Be happy!

My Testimony "Just a little talk with Jesus"

The subject has come up many times about my life and my experiences and every time I have shrugged it off. I have tried every way in the world to avoid writing my story. My testimony. To do so requires me to look at the horrible creature I was and I have been avoiding it longer than I care to admit. So now is the time.

Let's start with my childhood. My parents divorced before I knew what that meant, and so I never really remember having a two parent home. Both my parents loved me, I always knew that, but both were very, very, very young when I was born, and young people are prone to mistakes. I don't really know the particulars of what happened that caused them to split up, I just know that they were better people apart than together ( although secretly I always wished for the two people I loved so much to love each other and find themselves together. I always wanted that -normal- home. My father was a service man, a tank commander in the U.S. Army, his story is he was advised not to attempt to gain custody of me when my mother left. I'm sure there are two sides to that as there always are, and somewhere in the middle is the truth of what happened. I particularly don't care because it happened before I even knew what life was about. So I lived with my mother for quite a while. Until I was 5 years old. I don't remember a whole lot, and I am sure it is because I have blocked some out. I remember being a happy kid. Smiling, playing, and hating .. absolutely hating nap time. ( I had a little sister she hated it too) I do recall being left with my mothers step sister ( who I will never call my aunt) my little sister and I, for one night. During that night the woman asked us if we wanted some milk to drink. Now as you know all little kids love milk. Let me just say the delivery method left quite a lot to be desired. I was so young and while it may have ( and as you will learn later I think did indeed, effect my mental growing I do not recall it affecting me much at all, but yes, I was sexually abused.) Then a few years later, the first thing that I can really remember affecting me happened.

Of course it involved nap time. My sister and I were supposed to be sleeping but no, we decided to play, and of course for us play meant using everything in the environment as our toys. My mother had gotten some very, very nice window coverings and of course we decided that these should be used as ropes.. When we broke one of them, needless to say my mother was very, very angry. She freely admits that she was too rough with me that day. Unfortunately, it was the day that my father was supposed to pick me up for a visit. He did with his then girlfriend Debbie. For some reason ( and I do not know the particular reason, it has always made me wonder) she decided to pull off my pants and have a good look at my bare bottom, and she noticed marks where my mother had used a belt. I was 5 years old at the time, and when my Dad saw them he went a little crazy himself. Police were called, I was interviewed by some weird guy who smelled funny, and there was a court date set, etc etc.. I went to live with my Father, who at the time lived with my grandparents. I can not lie to you and say that I was traumatized because I truly do not feel like I was. I went on to live with my grandparents in their home that I felt was pretty much the greatest place on earth, and my mamaw and papaw ( what I called my grandparents) were pretty much the greatest people on earth in my eyes. There really isn't much left to say at this point, until the next turning point in my life. I started school, didn't really get along with other kids, made a friend or two, and was pretty much a terror to everyone who tried to get me to calm down and do something. Except mamaw and papaw.. When they spoke it was like I had to do what they say, I was compelled by no other sound but the sound of their voice.

When my grandfather died I was 8 years old. You know that feeling like the whole world is crashing down at your feet and you just have no idea what to do or how to do it? That's how I felt, I couldn't reconcile that I would never again see my grandfather on this plane of existence. I wanted so badly just to hear his laugh, or share a “June Apple” with him once again. I didn't exactly know how to cry, so I bottled it up and tried to go on with my life. I grew up in a very small area of Tennessee known as Walland, and church was always a part of my life, I remember going to church and being told to sit still, be quiet, just listen. I was involved with the youth at the church, some of which were my family but I never fit in with them. I was different. Trust me, being different at that young of an age can really... really be difficult. Very few people saw the abuse that was laid on me by the other children, those that did said something and were not believed, one of them actually left the church because of it. The rest turned their heads and went on, I was the bad seed. It was around that time in my life when I figured being the bad seed wasn't exactly a bad thing. I started to embrace it, and enjoy it. There were few times when I would let myself come out of my shell, and mostly those times were around my Great Aunt Roxie, or My Great Aunt Mae, who always made me feel like I was loved no matter what I did or didn't do.

Sometime around that time I asked a cousin who I will not name openly to teach me to play basketball. He said he would have to think about it and after a while he came back and said “ I will teach you to play basketball but there is a price” The price was for me to perform fellatio on him after each lesson. Wow that was a twofer, I got to learn basketball, and feel important. After all, that cousin had said that my father had made him do it when he was my age. If Dad did it how wrong could it be? My Dad was great.... So that lasted for about two or three weeks, it was over, no more basketball lessons and no more payments.. Funny, I still don't know how to play basketball very well...

To understand, I don't remember a time in my life when I was not interested in sex, this is probably because of the “milk” incident if psychiatrists are to be believed, but I can not remember a time when I went through the stage of “girls are icky” heck I didn't think anyone was icky as far as that went. So I was not a pleasant person, I was deep into depravity and lust. At school I turned hated remarks from everyone into some sort of sexual innuendo, I was in a lot of trouble. I began to hate everyone and everything that wasn't part of my family. That hatred would give rise to my life and give it a purpose for a long time. Church was horrible for me, I didn't fit in with the people my age, worse I knew I was a sinner for I had done with my cousin ( and he wasn't the only cousin who knew about it, or even had it).. I could not reconcile myself with God, because I did not know how. Everything in my core knowledge told me homosexuality is wrong but look at what I had done. How could God forgive that? What's worse, the door was open to me.. I not only liked it, I wanted it.. I relished it, I was good at it.. I made people happy... I was also a very accomplished liar, yes by the time I was 8. I knew how to avoid saying things to get myself in trouble and I knew how to say things to get others in trouble. At least with those I trusted anyway. I knew how to manipulate things. My mother loves to tell the story of her having to come to school and bring me clean clothes because I had urinated on the ones I had. I will share the story with that as it explains two things about me..

The school I went to should have been shut down years before it finally was. The building my classes were in had holes in the walls of the adjoined bathrooms. A girl I liked ( who I am still friends with now) would synchronize trips to the bathroom with me, not that we had to go, but because we could “show” ourselves through the holes. Apparently a teacher picked up on or synchronization and while she may not have known why she did think it was a disruption and informed us we would both be paddled after lunch.. I decided that I was not going to have it hurt and I asked to be excused to the restroom before the paddling ( so I could pad my britches) that did not happen. I was told that after the paddling I could go, not before. ( assumedly so that I could not pad my pants.. haha) I made up my mind right then I was not going to get paddled. So as I stood out on the porch of the building and was told to bend over, I wet myself. No teacher is going to paddle a child that just wet themselves, they called my mother and she brought me clean clothes. I did not get a paddling. This story explains, even at such a young age that I was interested in sex, and that even at a young age I knew how to manipulate situations to get what I wanted. Something that later in life people would refer to as a type of super power for me.

No one at that time knew that I had other interests as well, I had already begun smoking my fathers cigarettes behind his back, and I had begun stealing from stores I went too. I made a game of it almost, I was good at it. In my mind the best at it. I never got caught, not by anyone. I would continue to steal from stores stuff that I wanted up until I was in my 20's. I never got caught. Things in my life were tumultuous and they only got worse when my father married his long time girlfriend ( the one who had inexplicably looked at my bare bottom when I was five) who was 10 years older than me. I did not like the woman, what's worse is I knew my papaw had never liked her, I knew my grandmother who had started to lose her mental faculties at this time didn't like her, and I flat out hated her. Who was this woman trying to be my mother who was not more than 10 years older than me, for that matter, who was this woman who happened to be the first woman I ever saw fully naked. ( A story I have not disclosed)

I was ripped, and yes I do say ripped, because in my heart my home was with my grandmother, from my home and forced to live in her small, roach infested, smelly house. Where once I had free reign to anything I wanted to eat, I was put on a diet. There were things in the refrigerator that I could not eat. Where once I had not known what it was like to be hungry, I could no longer eat. Where once I had lived a life allowed to read books or go play in the woods, here I was restricted. I could go no further than the front yard. The woods were no place for a child, and I could not stay inside and read, that was forbidden. Where once I had privacy when I was in the bathroom now I had none. She would wait until I was in the bathroom to come in to put towels away, or she would rush in when I was in the bath tub ( because I could not take showers) I had no peace, I had no privacy, and after the first big argument at the house I had no door. My father had picked me up and slammed me through it. I got to see a side of him I did not know existed when he was with her. He became her enforcer. Whatever she said was right, and whatever I said was wrong. This was the case no matter what. I had not only lost my home, I had lost my freedom as a child, and I had lost my best friend. The man I wanted to emulate, the person I wanted to be, the man I loved with all my heart. He became not only distant, but very abusive. I had broken noses, broken shoulders, bruises, everything. Whenever I did something Debbie did not like she would twist my ear til it bled, or grab and scratch at my throat, if I made any move to defend myself from malicious attacks, she yelled for my father who like a white knight came charging in to defend his wife. ….. Uhhhh.. What about his son?

It didn't stop there though. Debbie always had her friends around, and many times they would move into the house with us. I lost the room I had there, and was forced to sleep on the couch until my father boarded up the back porch and made a psuedo room out of it for me. Debbie who had seen me naked more times than any woman not my mother or wife should have began to make jokes, the cruelest I can imagine for a young man growing up. She would wait until we were in front of her friends, or with a group of people and she would start making comments about the size of my genetailia. ( remember my previous interest in sex.. imagine how that must have felt) School was no respite, I loved going to school to get away from her, but when in school I did not share commoradorie with people. I was the one that no-one liked, and I really honestly didn't like them. I made few friends there, and had few people to talk too. At home I suffered abuse from Debbie, and abuse from her father, and if I lashed out, abuse from my father. No one in this world can hit as hard as my father could. Even when things were good, they weren't. Debbie's other favorite past time besides making fun of my genetailia was punching it.. It became a game for her and her friends. I was punched, kicked, and mocked all in one sitting. “It's so small he can't even feel it” No, I felt it, I just knew that if I made any move to defend myself that I would have to deal with the 6'1” 400lb monster my father could turn into. Of my father, I only saw glimpses every now and then of the man I once knew, it seemed that he had become some extension of her, and that he hung on every word she said. I remember writing once in a school journal that I thought my step mother was a witch who had cast a spell on my father.

I became the first “Goth” East Tennessee had ever seen. I hid my scars well, I hid my pain well, and I went to school and got into fights, and hated every one and every thing.. Except learning.. That I loved. I stopped attending church, truthfully it made me sick how everyone pandered around Debbie and treated her so nicely.. Could they not see the person she was? Why did they let that happen? Why did my father let it happen. My Grandmother had lost so much of her mental faculties at that time that even the powerhouse who always protected me, who I did tell, would be angry about it for a time and then forget it. At school, At the Sherriff's office, everywhere... I was the liar, Debbie and My Father were perfect parents. Perhaps I was just jealous of her. She was taking the attention I wanted from my dad.. they said. Meanwhile I was residing in the closest approximation I can imagine to hell. I tried to talk to some family about it, but it seemed no use. The people I thought would protect me, seemed not too. During this time my mother had a lot going on in her life, Im sure had we talked and had she known everything that was going on she would have fought for me, but then again.. My Dad was there.... Who could I trust? God? Certainly not. He let this happen to me, what's more Debbie was in church every Sunday morning so she was a good Christian. Oh how I hated that woman. As I grew older and my grandmothers health weakened, I began to run away from home. Always hoping that I never had to go back to that little shack with Debbie, or sleep at her parents house on a couch. It's surprising that I never tried drugs, to this day I do not know exactly why I didn't. It was my teenage years when Debbie got the idea in her head that I was a drug addict. She told everyone she knew that I was a drug addict that she knew I was on drugs. So the rumours began. She also told everyone horrible stories about how -I- abused her. How she was scared to sleep at home with me for fear I would rape her. (as if) This is why she had to sleep at her parents house. So she could feel protected.. Why could I not feel protected? Several times I remember crying and actually cursing God. How could he let this happen to me?

On my 17th birthday I was under house arrest. I could visit my grandmothers and even sleep there if it were ok with my father. Who always took his orders from Debbie. I was on probation and I could not do anything else. On my 17th birthday, after my grandmother went home, I asked simply to spend the night with her. I wanted to be with my grandmother on my birthday. Debbie would have none of this. We were going to her fathers house to sleep while my Dad worked his third shift job, there was no other choice. So I made a choice. I ran away. This time to my friend April's house. A refuge in the Storm that was my life, was April. She had been my best friend since 7th Grade. When I showed up at her door, soaking wet, and told her my story she sat me down and calmed me down and said her mom would be home soon to work things out. Her mom, not knowing the things that went on in my home life, made the best decision she could, she called her friend and neighbor who was a sheriffs deputy and asked him for help. I walked out of their living room in handcuffs, and was sent down town. Debbie had taken out an unruly warrant for me. That was my first arrest. I was pulled into my probation officers office and after a very tense discussion I said that I could either go to my grandmothers or to my mothers, but I would not go home with them. So he gave me a choice.. I could either go home with them, or I could go to juvenile hall.. The choice was mine. I turned, fiery eyed to the probation officer who was not on my side, and said.. “ I will go home with them, but I will not go to her parents house.” So I was taken to juvenile hall. My first call was too my mother, the second was to tell the jailors I did not want to see my father.

It was at this point that I met a prison minister who came by with a bible, it was called “Free on the inside” and witnessed with me and he prayed with me. I was moved out of jail into a psychiatric ward for a week due to my “suicidal poetry”, and then marched back into the jail, to await my court date. To tell you that it was pleasant would be the worst lie in the world. I hated every moment of it. As I spoke to the Guardian Ad Litem who was my “lawyer” of sorts he said that the case against me was basically bunk, and that he could have me free within minutes of being in front of the judge. He urged me to plead not guilty. At that point I made another decision in my life.. I decided I would not, no, could not go back to live with Debbie. I plead guilty. I was moved into states custody and the promise of a nice, clean, boys home not far from anyone I knew where I could have fun and be a kid and enjoy life.... That did not happen.. I was moved to Oak Ridge, far from where I grew up, in a town I hated, in a boys home that felt awkward and scary. So far from any one I called friend, and so far from the family I still loved very much I fell into a deep.. deep depression.. The first night I was to stay at the boys home, my bunk mates game back. Older boys, who found me too fat for their liking, or too ugly, or too stupid, or too country.. Or something. I was hounded endlessly by them, talking to the house parent made no difference. I begged to be moved out of that room but was told there were no others.. So as the lights went out... I heard them laughing at me and mocking me and I screamed at them.. “WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SEE.. DO YOU WANT TO SEE ME BLEED?” They answered unequivocally yes.. Apparently not knowing the lunatic they were talking too. I went into the bathroom we had access too, I took apart a disposable razor and I walked back in with the blade in my hand and cut my wrists in front of them. I guess they were horrified... Either way the house parent was awakened and I was moved to another place to sleep, but I could no longer stay there.. The next morning my case worker from DHS came to pick me up. I had won another battle.

I don't know if you know this or not, but it's really hard to place a child into the system if they have a history of mental illness ( which I did) or a suicide attempt. No one wanted to deal with that kind of child and after HOURS of trying to find a place my case worker was at her wits end. My mother who had been there to visit me talked with her and it was agreed that while I was still in states custody, I would be allowed to stay in the care of my mother until another option was found. ( I did not know at the time that the option would be a long term rehabilitation center). So I spent the next few weeks with my mother. It was a glorious time in my life, my mother was not abusive in the least. I had freedom, I had rules but they were not intrusive. I could talk on the phone, watch tv, stay up all night. As long as I followed the house rules, and paid my mother the respect she was owed. Her boyfriend Chris, became like a second father to me, and a best friend. Someone I dearly loved. I got to spend Christmas with my mother. On December 26th I was to be placed in my next placement. No one had told me what that was... I had a feeling it was something bad.. I even asked if it was lakeshore ( the state mental home) as I left my moms house with her in tears.. It was not lakeshore. It was Penninsula Village. A long term rehabilitation center for children who were treatment resistant. My freedom was gone.. in an instant.. On the first night there, one of the counselors told me I was a self absorbed narcissist.. I responded “Thank you” I resented being sent here. This was no group home, this was worse than jail.. I spent a good four months of my time there, without my clothes, in hospital gowns sitting in the day room floor because I had lost, due to my behavior, even the respite of a cubicle to sleep in.

I won't disclose any of my treatment there, although I will say this was the first place to actually recognize that I had a disorder, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, but I do recall one specific thing. The same man who told me I was going to be a lifelong mental institution patient, once said to me.. “Christion, if you could get away from your family, you might have a chance.” That stuck with me. So when I got out I stayed as far away from my father and stepmonster (as I called her) as I could. I lived with my mother until an argument sent me walking from Knoxville, TN to Walland Tennessee, to the only place I had ever called home.. To my Grandmothers house. It was a long walk.....

I could not stay there though, it was unhealthy for me to be there with my grandmother, it was decided I was a strain on her, and that I was too much for her to handle. After all, I was this mental patient who abused Debbie so horribly, what would I do with that old woman? So I spent more time than I care to count not knowing exactly what I was going to do. I stayed with my grandmother some, stayed with my mother some, and moved pretty much back and forth. I had however, secured a job. A good factory job. I worked night shift, with the stepmonster, and got to listen to her tell everyone how horrible I was to her. At one point several of my co-workers asked me how I could stand to be in the same room with her. They apparently could see her lies.. I just went about my business. My uncle had decided that since I had came this far in my life, he would “take a chance on me” and that I could come and live with him. He also helped me secure a car. A 1986 Toyota Celica, that I thought was the greatest vehicle in the history of mankind.. Unfortunately... My job at Tennessee plastic molding ended when I took a voluntary lay off. I had been hurt, and had just returned from a back injury when my supervisor talked with me. I was told that volunteer lay offs would be the first to be hired back. Did I want to go ahead and take it.. I wanted to be hired back after the buy out so I said sure. That.. Did not go over well at my uncles house.....

The day I came home and told them, he came in from work and demanded I get off his computer, I could tell at that moment he was very, very, mad. He told me quite simply that if I had no job I had no home. I decided to take my car and go that very moment. I packed up all that I had in it, and began living out of it, when I could not convince my mom to let me stay with her. It wasn't long until my old habbits came crashing back.. I stole gas, I wrote bad checks, I went anywhere I could to find a place to rest. Of course with all this, my sexual deviation had came back, and I had decided that it was finally time I had some release.. So I called a friend who had told me about a girl who would do “anything” for a pack of smokes. He gave her the first pack of smokes.... for me.. as a gift.. The second time I was to see her, I had not slept in three days. I had went to the gas station in my car that I had been living in and bought “protection” and of course the pack of cigarettes that was required payment. I guess God had a different plan for me, because as I went to pull out of the gas station ( after being motioned out by a lady) I was t-boned. What I remember about the wreck was hearing someone say “OH MY GOD, HE'S DEAD” and hearing someone praying. I laughed in my head.. Praying.. how stupid... Then I blacked out for a short time. My Uncle came to pick me up, the same one who had helped me get the car. The car I had not payed a dime on since losing my job. I remember how mad he was.. He said to me, as I slowly walked to his car, “hurry up, you are wasting my time, and what about that poor woman you hit, you wasted her time too, with your carelessness.” When we got to his work he called my father and told him to come get his son, and that he did not want to even look at me. Understand, my uncle to this day is a deacon in the baptist church I went to growing up, you can imagine how that made me look towards God. I spent some time in a motel, that my father paid for, then I had to leave that.. I called the only person I knew.. I called April.. She once again provided a respite for me. Her boyfriend ( someone who I had fought with nearly constantly in school) would let me stay with him until he went away to college. It wasn't long before we agreed I would go with him to Nashville, to start a new life..

Nashville was a great experience, I thought.. A chance to escape all the things I had been in the past, the preconceived notions of who I was. My bipolar disorder was a problem, I could not hold a job, but Danny patiently held his temper and let me live with him, even leaving the apartment in my name after the two years when he was done with college. It did not last long.. It wasn't long until my failure to pay my bills landed me homeless once more. Of course I had excuses.. I got fired for something dumb.. Even so much as blaming God for it. God doesn't like me because I wear black.. That's ok I don't like him either. So more hatred towards anything Christian, any principle that said my lifestyle was wrong. Any thing that said I was bad, I hated it.. How could anyone judge me, no one knew me. I was just that kid in black that no one liked. Oh the excuses I had. I slept with as many women as there were months in a year, and repeated that more times than I care to count. I smoked two packs of cigarettes a day, I drank like a fish.. Finally confirming Debbie's statement that I was a drunk. This was all ok, because I was a new person in Nashville, no one could pass judgement on me. I slept with under age girls, heck it was once said that it didn't matter as long as it was female.. That was a lie too, my sexual depravity did not end at the female of the species.. Of course I could look down in judgement on everyone else, because I had never done drugs. Alcohol and cigarettes were acceptable. Any from of illegal substance was not. It was in Nashville that my next life adventure began.

Before we get to that, I have to interlude into the circumstances surrounding my only child. Circumstances had left me ( of my own device I assure you) with no where to go, and so I headed back to East Tennessee, where I knew someone would take me in. Sure enough my sister convinced her father and her stepmother to take me in so that I was not homeless.. While there my old appetite for sex came back and I began looking for an outlet. I ran into an old friend who I had always wanted, she said she was taken but introduced me to her friend. I will not go into this girls psychological make up , but let me suffice it to say, she was dumb.. Not just a bit ignorant, she was down right stupid, and I was only able to be around her while I was drunk.. Still she was easy to manipulate and I did. I took her out of her parents home and had her move in with me ( remember I was staying at my sisters parents home). After a while the arrangement was not good, and we were told to leave, and so we set out to have a place of our own. A cute little couple moving into an apartment. She was abusive. More times than I care to count did I suffer her punching me, and that was just the physical, the things she did and said mentally were worse. My sister saw some of it, and boy did she hate Chrissy. I remember holding my sister back the day Chrissy attempted to run me over with her car. That did not end well.. Still I tried. I mean this was it for me. The last chance I had at happiness, then we found out she was pregnant. She went to work with Debbie at a place in Townsend. I thought everything would be ok.. Then one day I got a call that she was staying at my fathers house, and that she would not be coming back to the apartment. Ever. Later I found out that everyone I knew had been told horror stories of the abuse I had wreaked upon her. How I had beaten her senseless while she was pregnant with my baby. Once more down the rabbit hole I guess.. Oddly enough, I still have never once hit a woman in my life. I refuse to do so. Dejected and lost.. Unable to know what to do I decided that the child she carried was not mine, after all she must have cheated on me. I had cheated on her, so of course she had cheated on me. ( nice logic huh?) This was confirmed after the baby was born when my sister saw her out and asked to see the baby and she said in no uncertain terms he was not mine. Done with that I moved on with my life. I contacted a girl I had known from Nashville, one of the under age girls I had, had relations with, who as chance would have it was now 18 years old. We kept in constant contact and finally, she agreed to be my wife. To move into my little apartment with me and to have a life. She did not, I think, know what she was in for.

Our marriage lasted 9 years. For the first few it was great, we fought, outlandish fights .. battles that went on and on, she even threw a sword at me once, and cut me. HAHA.. That passion was met with even more passion and we made it work. For a long time. I tried to be back with my family and for a while everything seemed ok. My grandmother passed away shortly after we were married, my father passed away a few years after that. My family though, had loved my wife, even though she was black, that sort of thing never mattered. It mattered to Debbie, who never missed a chance to point it out but to my family Gena was the thing in my life that would turn it all around. .She was my savior. Behind closed doors though, my sexual depravity turned our marriage into a hell for her. There were threesomes, and other things. Unmentionable things. The times when I was in church were good, the times when I wasn't were horrible. Somewhere I had decided that I was a Christian, but I did not agree with going to church, churches have rules.. and busy body people.. Finally, the Godlessness of our marriage, and my own depravity became too much for her. She began to have dissasociation seizures, she fell deeper into the world of pot, and I fell deeper into the world of “Im better than you” and it finally came to the point where I knew we were hopeless. Both of us had finally lost our will to fight.

I remember that I didn't pray much then, but when I did it was always that God would save my marriage, that God would not leave me alone in this world, that God would not let Gena leave me too. Until one night, I went to bed and I prayed. I said : “God, as a Christian, and a horrible one, I have to let your will be done. If Gena would be happier, if it is what you want in my life, then let her leave.” The next morning she woke me up with a note telling me she did not want to be married anymore. There had been discussion of time apart, that was not what she needed, she needed to not be married to me anymore. So what did I do? I got drunk, and decided to kill myself. Took a bunch of pills, and ended up in the hospital. ALONE. My life in shambles, I didn't know what to do. My friend Christopher came and stayed with me at the hospital, and then when it was time for me to go home I went to his parents house. They did everything they could to help me, but everyone can only go so far. I was a drain on their supplies, I was giving them nothing. They were already supporting their son, they could not support me as well. So I had to go. I did. A landlord, I had lived with agreed to let me stay in one of his places. (after I called everyone I knew to ask if I could stay with them) if I could find a roommate. I went to live in the old house my then ex wife and I had lived in. Still not seeing that God had blessed me. I found a roommate, bad experience. Then I found a couple more roommates, more bad experiences, and finally Dave let me move into the old apartment I had lived in under the stipulation that I would pay him as much as I could each month. Not even half of the rent that was due on the place. He paid the electric bill, and even bought me food a couple times. Until one day he said to me. “Christion, my family is not doing well, I have to start making money on this property. I wish I could help you but I simply can not do anymore for you. You need to find some where else to go. I had exhausted all my abilities. I had no where. I had cut off from my family again when I had noticed that they had posted on my exes facebook page that they were praying for her. Where were my prayers? I had all but alienated Christopher and his family by my simple hindrance of staying there. I could not return. My mother could not help me. Where was I to go? This time I didn't even have a car to sleep in. At my very rock bottom.. With no other choice, and no other thing to do. This time .. I hit my knees.. Right there in the kitchen of that apartment, I cried out LORD HELP ME!!!!.. I prayed for his hand to work in my life and for him to help me out of this situation. Something I had never done before. It was not five minutes later when my phone rang, and it was the apartment complex I now live in. They told me they had an apartment for me, and that I could be in it by the end of the week. If I could pay the rest of the months rent. Dave, the landlord, ended up paying that..

I hated government housing. How far I had fallen, but I knew one thing for sure. God had been the one to give me this. God had given me this home, and it was high time I start paying attention to that. A few months after living here I met Jenny, a very large woman, in a wheel chair. A few months later I met her boyfriend. A man named Will. We hit it off immediately.. They invited me to Bible Study with them, but I refused. I was not all about that.. I was a solitary Christian. Finally, after weeks, and weeks of hounding me.. I agreed to go. It was, to say the least amazing. After a few weeks Will and I decided to start a church. We held service on Saturday, bible study on Wednesday, and “happy hour” ( which was a time to be drunk on the word, not on the things of this world) on Fridays. We would go out into the world together and simply talk to people and witness to them. I can not tell you how great it felt to be a part of a Godly movement. Things happened, and Pastor Will as he had been called for longer than I remembered, began to back slide, becoming a wretched beast of a thing that no one wanted to be around. He became consumed with lust. The church ended there. Once again I was without church, without Godliness in my life.

Stuff happened, lots of stuff happened and barely any of it mentionable. God continued to move in my life, and I was happy for a long while, but one thing Pastor Will said to me was that I needed to forgive people that had wronged me in the past. I said, selfishly, when they ask for forgiveness I will forgive them. An argument sprung up on Facebook, that brought a cousin of mine back into my life. As we argued I heard Pastor Will in my head telling me I needed to forgive him. I had never done that. So I did. In my heart. Im not sure if I ever told him I did, but I did it in my heart. We remained friends on Facebook from that day on. It was through him that I was re-united with my cousin Johnny. After struggling since Pastor Wills decline and then death with Godliness I saw his name on my forgiven cousins page and I sent him a friends request. I wanted to get back in touch with him, but more than that. God told me that I needed to ask him to let me go to church with him one day.

After 10 years of not talking to that cousin, who was shielded from all the things of my past and only knew me as my fathers son, my grandmother's grandson. I messaged him and asked him if I could go to church with him. The response was yes. I have been delivered now, from Godlessness in my life. I have a church that I can truly say I am happy with, I have family back in my life, and I have love. No one can ever tell me God is not real, No one can ever tell me God does not care. Every time I have ever let myself ask him to aid me, to be there, to comfort me. He has. Many have asked me for proof God exists. Read back over this, look at the life I have lead, the things I have done, and know that God saved me. God gave me a new life in him, a family to love me, and a home church, what's more look at the times in my life that God provided for me even as I cursed him. Don't tell me God doesn't love unconditionally.. I know better. All it takes.. Is just a little talk with Jesus!

The God Wheel..

A medicine wheel is a spiritual tool used by Native Americans to help guide them on a spiritual path to enlightenment in their life. Many Native American tribes have many different types of medicine wheels but they all seem to converge on the idea of a wholeness. When I look at a medicine wheel I think of my spirituality, and how it might relate to the walk a Christian must make in life.

While growing up I learned about the Cheyenne medicine wheel. The information I am giving you might be made up for all I know it might be incorrect, but it was the information given to me and I will pass it on to you.

All medicine wheels have neither a beginning or an end. They are a perfect circle and they are this because it shows the way life continues to proceed from one point to the next in a perfect circle. There are sections of the medicine wheel that show different properties. For example the south is generally thought of as a youthful point, it is this point that we will focus on first.

As it was explained to me the southern part of the Cheyenne medicine wheel focuses on the mouse. Mice are creatures that are tiny but they have a lot of power. Many a grown man have been found helpless in the grip of terror at the sight of a mouse. Still to the mouse this power is unknown. The mouse is unaware of what the very sight of it will do to another creature, it simply sees what is right in front of it's face. Scripture tells us something of this if we read 2 Peter 1 verses 1-9

Verses 1-8 give us the idea that we are given a path, a direction to walk. It is here that we learn that God indeed does have something for us to learn on our path to discovery of our purpose in his plan.

Verse 9 clearly gives us an indication that short-sightedness is a bad thing, and not something we should aspire to be. This could be considered the first step of our "medicine walk" or Spiritual path.

Like the Cheyenne Medicine wheel, the first step is realizing our shortsightedness, being able to see what is only clearly visible right in front of our face, living in this moment with out any heed or direction to what has been or will be. If we stay in this state to long we risk forever losing our faith and being stuck in a constant state of never knowing what our purpose really is.

The western section of the medicine wheel must be walked next, As it was explained to me the western section of the wheel represents a step in the direction of maturity. It represents a decided choice to walk towards becoming more complete, and not being stuck strictly looking at what is right in front of us like a mouse. The western point of the Cheyenne Medicine Wheel shows us the attribute of the bear. Bears are ferocious creatures who not only can see the what is right in front of their face, but they spend a considerable amount of time resting, and looking inward. A concept known as introspection. The Bible does speak of introspection.

1 Peter 1:13 tells us to gird up our minds. Which means prepare our minds, this is obviously talking about the same thing that 2 Corinthians 13:5 where we clearly see discussion of introspection. Introspection is the act of examining oneself.

The Eastern Section of the Medicine wheel is characterized by the Eagle, who has the ability to see what is right in front of it's face, has the ability to rest and look within, and has the ability to fly over everything seeing the big picture. The Bible tells us something more about seeing the big picture. In James 1 2-4 discuss seeing the big picture. It clearly tells us to count all as joy. Even when we have trials and tribulations. It is here we see the value of seeing the big picture.

Finally the northern section of the medicine wheel speaks of a spiritual awakening. For the Cheyenne nothing was considered more sacred than the buffalo that fed the population, clothed the population, and gave them tools to work with. In a lot of ways the very lives of the Cheyenne depended on the Buffalo, as we as Christians should depend on God. It is this attribute we try to obtain as we walk the paths of the medicine wheel, and it is this point we can view ourselves as more like unto God. Remember we are to be like God, we are to be separate from the world, and we are to be HOLY. Just like the perfect circle of a perfect medicine walk we come back to introspection.. If we read on past 1 peter 1:13 to verses 14-16 We see very clearly that we are to be "holy as he is holy" or attempt to be holy as he is holy. Remember we are species doomed to failure by something that happened a long time ago in a Garden far far away.. This does not mean we can not aspire to be more like God. Just as the Native Americans aspired to be complete in their journey through life and in their minds to be complete was to be the Buffalo who was as holy to them as any thing they could imagine.

So remember each day to try and be a complete medicine wheel. Remember to see what is directly in front of your face, what is required to face the day, then look inside yourself, still yourself for the day ahead, have some time for introspection, and then go out conquer the day as you see the things that are inside you and right in front of your face, but notice how you affect the bigger picture, and in the end, try as hard as you can each day to be like God. Remember his teachings and those of his precious son who died for us, and always, always, strive to be like him. Remember that each of us are his children, we are the sons and daughters of God and we are to try and act accordingly.

When you fail, and you will, we all do, Look back to your medicine wheel. Try and ascertain what it is that was right in front of you that caused you to fail. Try and figure out what it is inside you that played a role. See what parts of the bigger picture played a role without placing blame on any one person or any one event. Remember we are all accountable only for our actions. Then finally, as you lay your head down to rest, pray to the father, try and ascertain how you could be more like him, and wake up the next day and do it again.

Willfully ignorant

2 Peter 3:5-6 "For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old and the earth standing out of the water and in the water (6) Whereby the world that then was being overflowed with water, perished."

Are you willing to stand by and be willfully ignorant as our world heads down the road to destruction such as the way they did in Noah's time? Are you willing to let your salvation wait?

1 Thessalonians 5:2 Says

"For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night."

So that means that no one knows when the end is coming, which is true. No man knows the hour or the day, but the word of God gives us a very good description of what times will be like when the times are ripe for the end.

In order for the end times to truly be upon us the Gospel must reach the entire world. There should not be one part of this world that is left without the chance to know The Lord and the chance to get acquainted with the living God. Matthew 24:14 reads.

“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.”

However we are to remain vigilante in case that happens, we are to remain aware and not let ourselves fall into the purvue of false prophets. The word tells us that in the end days there will be many false prophets, that they will be after your money and they will make up many stories to get that from you. They will make up things to get you to follow along, and they will be a reason why those who follow the word of God are mocked and largely considered evil. 2 Peter 2 verses 1-3 read:

2 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

Now think about modern Christianity. Are Christians viewed in intelligent circles as people who are worthy of esteem, or are they viewed as a laughing stock, a reason to jest? Are they viewed as the people Christ wanted us to be, or are they viewed more as a group of hateful un-righteous, self important people who do not care about anything? Starting to see prophecy fall into place?

Here in America we always seem to be right on the edge of another war. Even as of late there are talks of invading Syria. People are awfully scared about this, as they were about the wars before that, but what does the Bible tell us about war, and especially in the end times? Mark 13 verse 7 reads:

And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet
That's right there shall be wars and rumors of wars in the end times. There will be a war, and then another one rumored, and possibly fought. Indeed the Bible tells us that nation will rise against nation (Mark 7:8 and Luke 21:10)

There will also be great signs from Heaven...
As I lay this verse out for you I want you to think about what kind of cataclysms the world of today has been facing. Tsunami's the like of which never before seen have washed the dead upon the shores, hurricanes, Massive Earth Quakes.. Etc.. Sure does seem to be a lot of natural disasters lately, what does the Bible say?

Luke 21:11 says “ And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.”

Have you heard of global warming? It's a myth right? That's what we are lead to believe by some people in power. However, even Modern day science has said it is real. Slowly but surely the sun is melting the polar ice caps, and they are flooding into the ocean. This is causing a lot of violence in nature and we are starting to see signs of it in every day life. Can you not already feel that the air around you seems just a bit warmer than those days when you were younger and more care free. Would it interest you to know that the word mentions this as well? Revelation 16 verse 8 reads:

8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.

Does this stop mankind from stupidity? Does even the threat of burning alive, or being destroyed by the mere the thought of the plagues spoken about in Revelation 6 ( read the whole thing, if you aren't saved you might just have nightmares) No because in Revelation 16 verse 9 we find out that man .. Oh you foolish man.. They don't believe or care.. Instead they wickedly and foolishly hold on to their own precious views. Revelation 16 Verse 9 reads:

And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.
So we start to get a picture of what the end times are like. If you haven't clearly formed it in your mind yet let me paint the picture vividly for you.

There will be wars and rumors of wars, there will be great out cryings of pain, famine, hunger, There will be great disease that we can not find cures for, and there will be an outpouring of excess heat from the sun. People will mock the people who bring truth the world, in fact truth will be hidden amongst the lies and false prophets. These false prophets will be after one thing, and they will act like merchandisers to sell you something. Everything will be fake, everything will be hidden, and there will be only a handful of people interested in telling the truth. Those will be made fun of. The world will be much like it was in the day of Noah. Luke 17:26 reads:

And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.

Does this sound like a world that is too far in the distant future? Or does it sound more like the world we live in now than most people would like to admit? I think it behooves each of us to pull out our Bibles, and study. To bend down on our knees and pray, and to hope that God will see in his infinite wisdom that we do love him, and are ready, and waiting to be with him in heaven. That we are set apart from this world. That we are believers in a true and living God who will save us from death if we allow him to do so. Or.. we could just ignore it. Walk away and be blissfully ignorant .. You know.. like the people in Noah's Day....

Unconditional Election

UNCONDITIONAL ELECTION!

Today we will focus on a false doctrine that is being taught by many churches in the world. Based on the belief of John Calvin, a French theologian later elected Pastor after his break from the Catholic church. What we see here however, is a belief that not everyone can be saved, that God only wants a certain set of people to go to heaven, and that God sent Jesus only to save those specific people. Not everyone. Also, there is a list of bible verses to back up these claims and give credence to the false idea that some people are better than others and that is simply the way God wanted it.

Ultimately this belief, fosters a worship of self, an idea that some can be chosen by God, and since God is with us we must be part of that chosen which makes us better than other people. As stressed before in my teachings worship of self is worship of Satan. Satan loves to misguide and misdirect us, and he can take what seems to be truth and implant it in a perfectly valid Christian, and let it fester until it rots away the work God has put into all of us. Understand what makes us special is not some special election before everything, it is the fact that God gave us the choice, to chose, whether we accept our crown as his children, or follow the false teaching. God wants every man to be saved, and continues, until the time of judgement to make sure everyone who hears and is willing makes that choice.

I digress.. Let's get on with it. Shall we?

The False Idea:

UNCONDITIONAL ELECTION

God's choice of certain individuals unto salvation before the foundation of the world rested solely in His own sovereign will. His choice of particular sinners was not based on any foreseen response or obedience on their part, such as faith, repentance, etc. On the contrary, God gives faith and repentance to each individual whom He selected. These acts are the result, not the cause, of God's choice. Election, therefore, was not determined by or conditioned upon any virtuous quality or act foreseen in man. Those whom God sovereignly elected He brings through the power of the Spirit to a willing acceptance of Christ. Thus, God's choice of the sinner, not the sinner's choice of Christ, is the ultimate cause of salvation.

Deuteronomy 7:6-7; Isaiah 55:11; John 6:44, 15:16; Acts 13:48; Romans 8:28; 9:11-13;
II Timothy 1:9

The Concept:

Are these verses actually pointing towards a certain number of People that God saved before they were born, and these are the only ones who can be saved? Of course not. God tells us in 1 Timothy 2 1-4 that he wants everyone to be saved. We are commanded to pray for everyone, and that it pleases God for us to do so. 2 Peter 3:9 tells us God does not want any to perish, he wants us all to come to repentance. Ezekiel 18:23 and 32 tells us that We can turn away from our sins, WE HAVE THAT CHOICE.. And Ezekial 18:4 tells us that EVERYONE BELONGS TO GOD.. We are all able to be saved. So the idea of an unconditional chosen specified few sinners are going to be saved, by God's choice and not by their own choice is not supported by Scripture.

Let's look at each of the scriptures above though, with a bit more a keen eye.. Starting with the first listed..

The Word:

Deuteronomy 7 6-7
For though art an holy people unto the Lord thy God: the Lord thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people that are upon the face of the eart. The Lord did not set his love upon you, nor chose you because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people.

What we need to realize here though, is that God is not talking to a certain few people, God is talking to the Nation of Israel. The people who he brought out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Clearly reading the scriptures before and after this verse shows this. It is not a special elect he is speaking too, but a whole nation he loves and treasures.

Isaiah 55:11
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I shall please, and it shall priosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Here God is talking about his word, I can not clearly surmise what is trying to be said in support of the “chosen elect” here. However, I would like to point everyone to the same Chapter, but verse 7 of Isaiah Where God says

“Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrightousman his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. “

If God has a set number that will be saved, why does this point to the idea that any man who repents can be saved?

John 6:44
No man can come to me, except the Father which hat sent me draw him: I will raise him up in the last day.

This is Jesus telling us that God will show us the path to him. Now at face value I can see how this might point to an unconditional election. God choses who will go to Jesus and thus he has chosen who will be saved. The problem is that for us to believe that we almost have to forget everything Jesus taught. Everything he did was because of the father. I think here the best reference I can find is Matthew 11:27 where the word tells us...

All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the father neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsovever the Son will reveal him.

Seems to me that Jesus says in this verse that nothing he does is done without the Father, which coincides perfectly with John 6:44 It almost also seems like John is very nearly quoting this line in Matthew, only leaving tidbits out. Remember Jesus taught to a multitude of people, and the times were rough. When he spoke there was usually a crowd, and his disciples had duties to perform crowd control, etc etc. So what we need to realize is. Without reading all the gospels and cross referencing we can not know exactly what was said.

John 15:16
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.

This is a beautiful verse in any translation of the Bible. Jesus is very clearly instructing -HIS- disciples in this verse. Read the surrounding verses to confirm this. He is preparing them to do as he did, and go forth and teach the word. He did chose his disciples, his chosen, of all the people who followed him, it was these people he chose to consider -HIS- disciples. His voice on earth after he was gone. So this is clearly Jesus talking to the disciples, not God saying he elected a few people..

Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Called according to his purpose.. We are at that cross roads again. I have to point to Ezekial 18:4 and say once again. We are all Gods, and thus all called to his purpose. Those who listen however, are a different story. Being called to purpose, and actually taking up that mantle are two different things. Consider Jonah and the whale. Jonah was called to a purpose, but good things did not happen to him until he accepted that, just as we must accept Jesus Christ as our personal saviour before good things happen to us. This does not mean a certain number of people are called.. It means what it says.. good things are our reward for doing what God wants us to do.

Romans 9: 11-12
For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth. It was said unto her, the elder shall serve the younger.

This one will require you to read and understand most if not all of the book of Romans, but in brief, this verse referrs to Isaac and Esau later renamed Israel and Edom. If we study the word, we find out that these are the names of nations. Israel ( the descendents of Isaac) and Edom ( The descendents of Essau) .. Whle both came from the same parents, one was born of promise. Spoken about in verse 9:9 and the other is born of flesh. Israel and Edom, Isaac and Essau.. they are analogies. I highly suggest reading ALL of the book of Romans and then coming back to this verse.

2 Timothy 1:9
Who hat saved us and called us with an holy calling, not according ot our works, but according to his own purpose and grace which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.

All four Chapters of this book are Paul sending a message to one man.. Timothy, where he speaks of himself and Timothy in the vernacular “Us” as in “you and I” while the whole book when taken contextually does have a message for all of us, this verse in particular is clearly Paul giving a nod of approval and friendship to Timothy, by making sure Timothy understands that they are both serving God in his purpose, through the power of Jesus Christ who saved them. Paul could see that God had ordained Timothy ( read the rest of the book) to be a minister for him. Surely ordination by God to priesthood is being elect, but in this instance it is referring simply to Paul and Timothy both being ministers of the word.
The summation:

In truth there are many verses that go against the idea that God set forth a certain elect of people to be saved and will not worry about the others. This viewpoint of unconditional election is flawed, and based largely on misconceptions and scriptures being taken out of context. If we read the many scriptures in the Bible that speak of God's love for man, his desire that all be saved, his willingness to come to Earth in a flesh form, that man can look upon ( for no man can look upon the face of God (Exodus 33:20) and then to be crucified on the cross for the sins of ALL (1 John 2:2) we can not truly believe that we (all who come to Jesus for whatever reason, and truly repent and truly study and live as a rightous person should) may or may not be saved by the whim of a deity who does not want us all to be saved. God has given each of us the chance to join him in and have life eternal ( John 3:16) WE.. have to make the choice to heed that call, we have to decide that we are going to accept the gift God has given to us.

Finally in the acceptance that when God speaks of “elect” or “chosen” he means those who are saved through his son who died for our sins, we must accept the fact that there is no “limited atonement” as described as an attachment with Uncondtional Election by many churches who hold fast to this misconstrued and often misused idea. If we are to take parts of the Bible to form our faith, we should take all the Bible to form our faith. We can no more pick and chose what parts we want to believe and disbelieve, more than we can chose when the end of the earth will come or whether our neighbor, friend, brother, sister, son, daughter or any other will be in heaven with us.

The word clearly teaches us. All belong to God, All can be forgiven, and All can repent and find the Glory of God, and be with him in eeternal life. Let no one tell you different. Remember Satan tries hard to subvert the word to his advantage, this is an example of that. Unfortunately many people still drink the cool-aid.

How to Live in Christ

HOW TO LIVE IN CHRIST!

As we go through todays lesson, I want each of you to think of your lives, and what you might have done that could be done differently and more importantly done in the way Christ would want us too. As Christians we are asked many times”what does it mean to walk in Christ?” It means living in Christ, and while the whole Bible does explain to us how to do that, there are some lessons to be learned from today's message.

How do I live in Christ?

Ephesians chapter 5 Verses 1-5 lay a ground work for this. It is here we see what is expected of us as Christians, and how to walk in the light of Jesus. It's not the 10 commandments, however, it is to be married with them, or rather a result of walking in those 10 commandments. We are to humble ourselves as children. We can not go to God and say "I am an adult,I know everything." It simply is not that way, we do not know everything and as our church covenant, and the word of God says; in 2 Corinthians Chapter 5 Verse 15

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold,
 all things are become new."

Nothing new ever just jumped up and knew everything that was supposed to be known, instead it took many years of learning and understanding and talking with someone who might know more than we do. In this we are to be like children, ever vigilant to learn new things in Christ. There's more though.. In verse 2 we are told to walk in love as he hath loved us. This means that whenever possible we should show love one for another, and become as Jesus wanted a loving person, who is not mean, who is not judgemental but who is there in understanding and compassion. Verse 3 is a bit hard to swallow. It tells us, as the 10 commandments do, to refrain from fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness. It says directly "Let it not be named once among you." and finally just like Romans 6:23 we see again in verse 5 that the wages of our sin is death NOT life everlasting...

Now it may be clear to any of us, from what we have learned here so far, and what we have read tonight that we are to keep ourselves clean, and live in love and harmony and peace. It doesn't stop there folks. Before going on, I would like to read from the book of Psalms Chapter 1 Verse 1. Which reads:

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful."

what does it mean though, to walk in the counsel of the ungodly? We go back to Ephesians 5 and look at verses 6-14 for a better understanding of this.

6Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
8For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
9(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
10Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
11And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
12For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
13But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
14Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

In verse six we are warned against being decieved, and we are informed that the wrath of God will be visited upon those who disobey. In verse seven we are told not to partake with people who are not of our faith, this is compounded by verse 8 which tells us that we once were darkness, now are light in the lord, and that we should walk as children of light. in verse 9 it tells us that walking in that light, or walking in the spirit is where goodness and truth is found. and 10 tells us that walking this way proves that we are acceptable unto the lord. Verse 11 repeats almost to the word what is said in Psalms 1:1 in verse 12 we see that it brings shame upon our face, and that of our brethren and sisters to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. In verse 13 is a great promise that all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light. In verse 14 we see the first glimpse of how we should witness to other people. We should try to awake those who sleep, and raise them from the dead, and allow Christ to give them light.

So we can't hang out with our old friends who are ungodly. Who then should we hang out with? Everyone needs companionship. Look no further than Genesis chapter 2 Verse 20- 22 where God made for Adam a "help meet" losely translated as a companion. Even then at the begining of our world God knew that we must have companionship. Lonliness is an emotion that can hinder our relationship with God, it is a problem because we feel as if we are alone and even though we know that God is always there watching us, and there to lend a hand to us, we feel that we need to have a connection here on earth. For this reason it is said that a man shall leave his father and his mother and cleave only to his wife, and furthermore that we should have friends. If we can not fellowship with people of our past who should we fellowship with then?
Verses 15-21 give us insight into this:

15See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
18And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
20Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
21Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

We see here first that it is important to walk circumspectly, which means to be watchful, prudent, and cautious. Here again another warning that we should know that we are in the Lord before we take even a step in any direction. We see also that we are to redeem ourselves at times because the days are evil. Again we are to be not unwise, nor drunk with whine, but filled with the will and spirit of the lord. We are to praise eachother, and give thanks in everything even while submitting ourselves to one another.

What does it mean though? I believe here is an idea of how a Church is supposed to be and I believe that these verses tell us how to walk in the counsel of the church. How to find companionship without going back to the dead life we left behind. Further more let's flip to chpater 6 for a moment, verses 10-18, where the word tells us..

That we are to be strong in the lord, and in the power of his might, that we are to put on his armour and breastplate ( not the armor of the world which happens to be the armor of lies) and we are to stand with truth bursting out of us, with a shield of faith and a helment of salvation and a sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. and we are to pray for eachother.

After this we are still left with the nagging questions, pray for whom exactly? Where do we turn for companionship? Who are we supposed to get advice from? Who are we supposed to learn from? If not the people in our past them whom?

Turn with me to Acts Chapter 2 Verses 41-47:

41Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
42And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
43And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
44And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
45And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
46And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
47Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

This is the first hint to the answer of the questions above. We see here what might be called the first true apostlic church. Where the apostles become a church and God blesses them with more and more. Collosians 1:18 tells us that a church is like unto a body, and the "he" ( meaning Jesus) is the head of that body, and he has supremecy, but what of that Body? The bible tells us in Romans Chapter 12 Verse 5
So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

and furthermore in 1 Corinthians 12 14:23 the functionality of that body..

14For the body is not one member, but many.
15If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
16And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
17If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
18But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
19And if they were all one member, where were the body?
20But now are they many members, yet but one body.
21And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
22Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
23And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.

So the answers to those nagging left over questions can all be the same. We are to find acceptance, and understanding, and love within a church, but more importantly we are to foster that love, acceptance, and understanding. We are to be with one another, have fellowship with one another, and although Christ should come first in our lives, the Church should be a close second, because it is here we grow in Christ, we become the person we are meant to be, we find support for our lives in Christ, companionship without going to those who are ungodly, and love. We learn and we grow.

In closing let us all remember Hebrews 10 verse 25.

"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."

Never Give Up!

Innitial Reading :

Lamentations 1 v1-22.

This describes the state of the modern day church, she has become more like unto this passage. Where seats where once filled, they have become more and more empty with each passing day, and so the lords word instead of being lifted up, and praised has more become a chore, something we must do, something that must be done because it is what must be done, but not because it needs to be done.

Many of us in life, do our best to do the right thing, to raise up our father, to be what we need to be for him, but we fail, we fall, and eventually we give up. We have people laugh at us, we hear the snickers and the jests, and we let ourselves believe we are as worthless as those people feel. Take heart, if you are a Christian, if you truly believe that Jesus is the way, the truth , and the light, then you must know that he will hold you up, even when you fall, even when you fail, even when you feel you can not go on.

But, the bible goes deeper. There are verses through out the Bible that tell us how the Bible views giving up. The first and most important of these is Joshua Chapter 1 Verses 7-9 The emphasis on this should be Verse 9, although the other two verses are very telling, Verse 9 sets a precident that should not ever be forgotten.. Verse 9 says HAVE I NOT COMMANDED YOU? Here God tells us he commanded us.. to do what? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed and why? Because the lord is with us always.. What a thought, he not only gave his son that we might have eternal life, but he walks with us every where we go.

Many people say, “ Yeah Sure, God is with me, but what can I do? People do not listen, People do not try, People act like children I have tried but I can not do it....” Matthew Chapter 19 Verse 26, says Jesus beheld them and said lo, with men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible... Now if we believe God is with us, as we have been told he will be then surely we have to believe that all things are possible with God beside us. Because we do things in his name, not our own.

Still we get so weary, we get so distraught, maybe we think that God will is not with us, because we are doing it all wrong. He hasn't brought anything to fruition yet, if we were doing right, God would have brought us to fruition right? Maybe.. Let us remember Galatians 6:9 Where it reads “ And let us not be weary in well doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” And we say, In due season, but what is due season? We wonder since due season is not here yet, if we are ever going to see it, and to that we need to remember 2 peter chapter 3 verses 8 and 9 . This gives us an example of time for God, who is both the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. What does he say there though The Lord is not slack concerning his promises. He will give it to you, you only need to make sure you are ready when the time comes, and remember that he is right there beside you through every thing you do, and that if you keep his word, and follow his commandments, and never get tired of doing what he commands then you will be rewarded.
Finally there are those of us who have tried, and failed, and maybe even fell backwards a few steps, maybe even went back to the beginning and wonder if it is worth it, if there is any chance of things becoming better. To that we must remember one of the most beautiful verses of the Bible, Psalms 37:24 Where it says that even if we fall, We are not utterly cast down, because God holds our hand. What better promise can there be? What better reason to keep going than simply because our father, who loves us so much stands beside us, holding our hand, to make sure that when we do fall, we do not find ourselves lost completely in the abyss.

Remember the 23 psalms,
1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Surely Goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our lives, and we will dwell in the house of the lord forever..

Never get tired of doing the right thing, never get tired of following Gods commands, even if it is a struggle every hour of every moment, even if it seems like it is not sinking in, even if it seems people can not understand, it is not for us to understand why God plants thoughts in our head, or why he asks us to do stuff, but it is for us to do as he commands. Like the old Credo... “Ours is not to question why, ours is but to do or die”

Never get tired of doing the right thing.
